Past Tense | Must be watch !!!

NOTE : कोई भी Tense 4 तरह के Sentence से बनाई जाती है I

  • Affirmative Sentence
  • Negative Sentence
  • Interrogative Sentence
  • WH Family Sentence

Past Tense 

A tense expressing an action that has happened is called Past tense.

Example :  Amar performed in the show.
                    I was waiting for my friends.
                    I wrote the letter.
                    He prepared his homework.


THERE ARE 4 TYPES OF PAST TENSE :


1) Simple Past tense / Past Indefinite tense – 


AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCE 
Subject + V2 + Object 

Example – We ate food.
                  Sita sang a song.
                  Ram drank water.
                  Amar bought a pen

NEGATIVE SENTENCE
Subject + Did not + V1 + Object

Example – Sita did not sing a song.
                  He did not speak English.
                  I did not wash clothes.
                  She did not eat food.

INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE
Did + Subject + V1 + Object

Example – Did you go to school.
                    Did they fly a kite.
                  Did you beat her.
                  Did he buy a car.

WH FAMILY SENTENCE
Wh Family + Did + Subject + V1 + Object

Example : When did he play cricket?
                  Why did you do that?
                  How long did you study English?
                  What did the girl have in her bag? 

2) Past Continuous Tense –

 
If subject is  HE,  SHE , I  or  ANY NAME , then you use “WAS” .
If subject is  YOU,  WE, or  THEY , then you use “WERE” .

AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCE
Subject + Was / Were + V4  + Object

Example – She was playing Cricket.
                  I was eating Dinner.
                  You were watching TV.
                  They were drinking coffee.

NEGATIVE SENTENCE
Subject + Was / Were + not + V4 + Object.

Example – She wasn’t playing cricket
                  I was not eating Dinner
                  You weren’t watching TV.
                  They were not drinking coffee.

INTERROGATIVE  SENTENCE
Was / Were + Subject + V4 + Object.

Example – Was She cooking food?
                  Was I playing football?
                  Were you doing a job in London?
                   
WH FAMILY SENTENCE
Wh Family + Was / Were + Subject + V4 + Object

Example – When was he Sleeping?
                  What was she doing at noon?
                  

3) Past Perfect Tense –  

AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCE
Subject + Had + V3 + Object 

Example – Amar had eaten food.
                 I had taken rest.
                 She had met him before the part.
                  I had written the application.

NEGATIVE SENTENCE 
Subject + Had + not + V3 + Object
              
Example – Amar had not eaten food.
                    I hadn’t taken rest.
                    She hadn’t met him.
                    I had not written the email.

INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE 
Had + Subject + V3 + Object 

Example – Had Amar washed clothes?
                    Had we finished our work?
                    Had She eaten food?
                    Had you written the letter?

4) Past Perfect Continuous Tense – 


AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCE 
Sub + Had + Been + V4 + Object + For/ Since + Time

Example – I had been learning English for 2 Years.
                    We had been eating Pizza Since Sunday.
                   You had been preparing for Board exam since 2010.

NEGATIVE SENTENCE 
Sub + Had + Not + Been + V4 + Object + For/ Since. + Time.

Example – I had not been learning English for 2 years.
                    We hadn’t been eating Pizza Since Sunday 
                   You had not teaching for Cbse Since 2010.

INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE 
Had  + Sub + been + V4 + Object + For/ Since + Time.
  
Example – Had we been waiting for her Since 2005?
                    Had Amar been teaching English Since 2010?
                    Had I been Watching TV for 10 hours?

WH FAMILY SENTENCE
Wh  Family + had + sub + been + V4 + Object + for/ Since + Time.

 Example – Why had you been going to office for 5 days.?
                     Why had Ramesh been crying since morning?
                     Since when had you been taking bath?
                     Since when had we been driving car?
