 Modal Verb


The helping verb which is always used with main verb is called a Modal Verb

वह सहायक क्रिया जो हमेशा मुख्य क्रिया के साथ प्रयोग हो उसे रूपात्मक क्रिया कहते है 


THERE ARE 10 MODAL VERBS :-

1) Can            2) Could        3) May          4) Might       5) Shall
6)  Should     7) Will            8) Would      9) Must        10) Ought to 

Characteristics of Modal Verb

1)  It Always Use with Main Verb .

2) It does not have Subject effect.    

3) They never change their forms. 

Uses of Modal Verb

1) Can:-It is used to express POWER(बल) , ABILITY(योग्यता) ,CAPACITY(क्षमता ) , ORDER(आज्ञा), POSSIBILITY(संभावना ), PERMISSION. (अनुमति )

1) Poonam can break this stick.
पूनम इस छड़ी को तोड़ सकती है 

2) Ram can lift this box
राम इस बक्सा को उठा सकता है 

3) Smoking can cause cancer.
ध्रूमपान से कर्करोग हो सकता है 

4) You can defeat me.
आप मुझे हरा सकते है 

5) Rahul can move this rock.
राहुल इस पत्थर को हिला सकता है 

6) Amar can speak French
अमर फ्रेंच बोल सकता है 

7) Ram can break this wall
राम इस दिवार को तोड़ सकता है 

8) Amar can carry this load.
अमर इस भर को ढो लकता है 

9) Katrina can solve this sum.
कैटरीना इस सवाल को हल कर सकती है 

10) Can I use your Phone?
क्या मैं आपका मोबाइल इस्तेमाल कर सकता हूँ ?

11) Can you play basketball ?
क्या आप बास्केटबॉल खेल सकते है ?

12) He can swim like a fish?
वह मछली की तरह तैर सकता है

2) Could:-It is used to express  PAST ABILITY (भूतकालीन योग्यता ) / POLITE REQUEST (विनम्र निवेदन ) / PAST TENSE OF CAN (can का past tense )

1) Amar said that Ram could speak English
अमर ने कहा कि राम अंग्रेजी बोल सकता था 

2) Sonam said that Sonali could Speak French.
सोनम ने कही कि सोनाली फ्रेंच बोल सकती थी 

3) Amar said that Sonu could teach.
अमर ने कहा कि सोनू पढ़ा सकता था 

4) Suman said that she could break this wall.
सुमन ने कहा कि वह इस दिवार को तोड़ सकती थी 

5) Could you please give me a pen ?
क्या आप कृपया मुझे एक कलम दे सकते है ?

6) Could you please open the window?
क्या आप कृपया खिड़की खोल सकते है ?

7) Could you please close the door?
क्या आप कृपया दरवाज़ा बंद कर सकते है ?

8) Could you please move a bit?
क्या आप कृपया थोड़ा खिसक सकते है ?

9) Amar could speak Hindi when he was 10.
अमर अंग्रेजी बोल सकता था जब वह 10 साल का था 

10) Amar could speak English when he was young
अमर अंग्रेजी बोल सकता था जब वह जवान था 

11) Kajal could swim in her childhood.
काजल बचपन में तैर सकती थी 

12) Suman could write in her childhood.
सुमन बचपन में लिख सकती थी 

3) May:- It is used to express  POSSIBILITY(संभावना) |  PERMISSION (अनुमति ) |  REASON (कारण ) | WISH (इच्छा या कामना )

1) It may rain today
आज वर्षा हो सकती है 

2) I may win the race
मैं रेस जीत सकता हूँ 

3) She may come today
वह आज आ सकती है 

4) India may win the match
भारत मैच जीत सकता है 

5) May I come in, Sir?
क्या मैं अंदर आ सकता हूँ श्री मान ?

6) May I take your pen ?
क्या मैं आपका कलम ले सकता हूँ ?

7) May I use your phone?
क्या मैं आपका फोन इस्तेमाल कर सकता हूँ ?

क्या मैं यहाँ बैठ सकता हूँ ?

भगवान करे आप सफल हो जाए

4) Might:-It is used to express DOUBTFUL POSSIBILITY(संदेहपूर्ण सम्भावना ) |  REASON (कारण ) |  WISH(इच्छा या कामना ) |  PAST OF MAY(May का past tense )

1) Amar said that Ram might come today.

2) Sonam said that It might rain today.

3) Amar said that she might win the race.

4) Suman said that she might win the match.

5) Amar is weak. He might pass SSC.

6) The sky is clear. It might rain heavily.

7) I am weak. I might defeat you.

5) Will:-It is used to express Simple Future Tense with 2nd Person and 3rd Person and It is used with I and We, If they Express Determination(ढृढ़-निश्चय ) |  Promises (वायदा) |  Threat (धमकी)

2) Radha will come here tomorrow.

3) You will write a letter.

4) He will enjoy the party

5) She will dance

6) It will be Sunday

7) They will go there.

6) Would:-It is used to express PAST TENSE OF WILL / POLITE REQUEST / PROBABILITY / GREAT DESIRE / PAST HABIT / UNREAL CONDITION .

1) Amar said that he would help me.

2) She said that she would wait for me.

3) Would you like a cup of tea?

4) Would you mind lending me some money?

5) If I were a bird, I would fly in the sky.

6) If I were the President, I would lower taxes.

7) Shall:-It is used to express Simple Future Tense with I and We and It is used with Second Person and Third Person if they express Determination  / Promises / Threat .

1) I shall go to Goa tomorrow.

2) We shall enjoy the party.

3) We shall be in Japan next year

4) What shall we talk about?

5) Shall I open the window?

6) We shall eat after the party.

8) Should:-It is used to express PAST TENSE OF SHALL / ADVICE / DUTY / INSTRUCTION .

1) Amar said that I should go there.

2) Amar said that we should go there

3) Amar should drink milk

4) Ram should help the poor

5) You should write well.

9) Must:-It is used to express DUTY / OBLIGATION / INSTRUCTIONS / STRONG ADVICE / COMPULSION / NECESSITY / PROBABILITY / PROHIBITION .
